Supporting Parents Developing Children -- Making a World of Difference
Hume City Council proudly invites you to join us on the journey of social justice in Hume City. Hume was the first municipality in Australia to adopt a Social Justice Charter under which the key attributes of disadvantage are addressed. The Supporting Parents Developing Children -- Making a World of Difference DVD showcases the fantastic programs, opportunities and challenges to enable those who experience disadvantage to overcome the barriers. By strengthening access to appropriate and tailored programs, we can increase opportunities for culturally and linguistically diverse parents to develop their English language skills and to support their children's language and literacy development. Increasing participation in early years' services and programs builds a strong foundation for children to build upon once they commence primary school. These programs have made a real difference to the lives of our community. From June to December 2012 over 1050 adults, 523 children aged 0-5 and 340 school aged children participated in the programs. Through the Social Justice Charter, we will continue to seek new and innovate ways to support our citizens to realise their potential and contribute to the quality of community life in Hume.
